Frequently asked questions
What is the free assessment?
A free 15-minute online meeting with one of our tutors. It is not a lesson. We see where the learner is, hear your worries and agree on a plan. Read what it covers.
Are the lessons online only?
Yes. All lessons are online, one-to-one, on the Pen in Hand platform.
What do I need?
A laptop or tablet with a camera, a microphone and a stable internet connection.
How long is a lesson?
30 minutes. Want a full hour? Book two lessons with a 15 minute break between them. It is a feature, not a workaround: children concentrate better in 30 minute blocks, and the break lets them reset.
How much do lessons cost?
A 30-minute one-to-one lesson is R160, or R750 for 5 and R1,400 for 10. See pricing.
What are lesson tokens?
You pay up front and receive tokens. One token is one lesson. Nothing is ever owed.
What if we need to cancel?
Cancel 24 hours or more ahead and the token is returned. If the tutor cancels, the token is always returned.
Are lessons recorded?
Yes, for quality and safety. Recordings are kept for 90 days and then deleted.
Can a tutor message my child?
No. Our tutors never contact a learner directly outside the platform. Everything goes through the parent.
Which grades, subjects and curricula?
Grade 8 to 12, CAPS and IEB, and homeschool learners: Afrikaans First Additional Language, Afrikaans Huistaal, and English Home Language and First Additional Language. Adults are welcome too.
I am already registered. Where do I log in?

Who do I ask if I have another question?
